New DuPontTM AceleprynTM Insecticide Receives EPA Registration for Controlling All Key Grub Species and More
New Chemistry Combines Effective Control of Grubs and Other Turf-damaging Pests with an Unparalleled Environmental Profile
WILMINGTON, Del., May 6, 2008 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved the registration for DuPontTM AceleprynTM insecticide. AceleprynTM has been proven by independent university researchers in over 500 field trials to control every white grub species and other key U.S. pests such as the annual bluegrass weevil, billbugs and caterpillars. AceleprynTM also boasts other industry firsts:
- The ability to control multiple pests with a single, early application
- The lowest application rate ever utilized for white grub control
- An active ingredient with the lowest water solubility of any white grub control product
- An entirely new class of chemistry and mode of action active ingredient
- Excellent environmental profile
- EPA Reduced Risk classified active ingredient
- Low impact to non-target organisms such as beneficial arthropods as well as bees, birds, fish and mammals
"AceleprynTM represents a break-through product that introduces new levels of
performance plus environmental and toxicological attributes that simply didn't exist until now," said
Dr. Chuck Silcox, global product development, DuPont Professional Products. "Independent university
researchers have confirmed that the mode of action for AceleprynTM provides superior control of the 10
key white grub species, and other important turf insects including annual bluegrass weevils, billbugs and
caterpillars. Our customers tell us this makes AceleprynTM an obvious choice for their insect control
programs, and its minimal impact on beneficial arthropods makes it an excellent choice for their IPM
programs."
AceleprynTM is designed to control white grubs and other turf-damaging pests on a wide
range of sites, including golf courses and commercial and residential turf sites. AceleprynTM is approved for use to control key pests infesting landscape and recreational turf, as well as landscape ornamentals
including trees, shrubs, foliage plants, flowers and non-bearing fruit and nut trees.
The launch of AceleprynTM is another major achievement of DuPont's ongoing
commitment to develop products that are highly efficacious and gentle on the environment. Its active
ingredient, DuPontTM CalteryxTM, was granted reduced-risk status by the EPA in April 2007 for
applications to turfgrass. CalteryxTM has been tested in independent studies and proven to have minimal
impact on beneficial arthropods, birds, fish, bees and mammals. In addition, CalteryxTM, the active
ingredient in AceleprynTM, has the lowest water solubility and lowest application rate ever utilized for
white grub control products.
At press, DuPont has submitted AceleprynTM for state registration approvals. More
